What are commissions?

While having a professional picture taken is undoubtedly a wonderful experience, the results of which should be treasured, is it ever possible for a single image to capture more than a moment?  To fully ensure the very essence of you is captured on canvas, commissioning a portrait could be the way to go.

There’s no doubting that those that create portraits possess a skill that most of us could only ever dream of. To have your image, or that of a loved one, captured by someone that is capable of such skill is something really special. When a portrait is commissioned the artist takes time to get to know who you are, spending a significant amount of time with you discussing your requirements, what you want the portrait to show, where you want it to go and what is important to you when it comes to the piece itself. A good portrait artist will take the time to understand what is important to you, to study every tiny detail of the way you look, the way you move and the type of person you are. This is something which is near impossible to capture in a single image.

Not only is a commissioned portrait something to be proud of and to be treasured it also allows you to own a piece of history. If you look back through history, much of it is marked and perhaps defined by the artists of any given time. To commission and own a portrait is your chance to not only own something which is completely unique but also to snapshot your very own piece of time.
